About Us

The Simi Hills Wildlife Observatory (the Observatory) was founded in December 2021 by a small group of science and conservation-oriented activists with a desire to remove or minimize political influences and broaden the appeal of wildlife sciences and conservation activities to a wider audience. Functioning as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, the Observatory will initially concentrate on researching and conserving the wildlife of the Simi Hills and surrounding areas of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

Observatory members are currently conducting programs in the Simi Hills, especially at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL), as well as periodically at regional parks such as Sage Ranch and Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Reserve. San Fernando Valley centers of activity include Sepulveda Basin, Chatsworth Nature Preserve, and private property.
